Arrowhead Pride Community Mock Draft -- Pick #29 by the San Francisco 49ers

And with the 29th pick in the 2008 Arrowhead Pride Community Mock Draft, the San Francisco 49ers select:

Michigan WR Mario Manningham

Draft Profile

ds1 with the pick:

New offensive coordinator Mike Martz will push hard for a receiver in the first round and based on the previous picks, we feel he's the best receiver available.

The signing of Isaac Bruce is just a stop gap for the organization and we hope the professionalism and work ethic of Bruce will pay off with Manningham as well as Vernon Davis.

Definitely makes sense
As a WR I would love to be under Martz my rookie year.

thanks PT......
I'm not a huge Martz fan but Bruce and Holt success can't be an anomaly in my opinion.

If this were round 2 I could see them taking MM
but not in round one, he has slid down the charts a ton.  With the 49ers other needs I don't see them taking a WR in ROund 1.

my line of thinking...
Most mock drafts I've seen have SF going WR, LB (which I disagree with after last Willis last year) and OL.

I don't see LB and based on our mock, the OL available were not even close to a first round pick.  The 9'ers have no receiving corp at all....they signed Bruce but that will be for a year or so.  Nolan and Martz have this year to make the offense work.  Manningham has slid due to 40 times at the combine and some personal stuff but his pro day was better than his combine.  Lastly, Manningham was the best WR available in our mock.

I'm curious, your rationale on no WR in the first round and then I'd also be curious who would you have chosen.

It's easy to sit and be critical....why not take an extra few minutes and offer your solution.

Hey Tom...
I just reread my post and I hope the last sentence didn't come across poorly.  I'm really just curious what direction you think the 9'ers will go.

Again, sorry if it came across wrong.

Cheers,

Daren

Manningham loves his weed.
Obviously the 9'ers organization was not made aware of Manningham admitting to failing multiple drug tests while at Michigan.  I would still look at a receiver in this draft but if there wasn't one available, I would go best athlete.

I had no problems with his workout numbers but failing multiple tests for having an affinity for pot is too big of a red flag.
