Arrowhead Pride Community Mock Draft -- Pick #49 by the Philadelphia Eagles

And with the 49th pick in the 2008 Arrowhead Pride Community Mock Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles select:

Indiana WR James Hardy

Draft Profile

styg50 with the pick:

I'm surprised Hardy fell this far, but it is definitely understandable. After having a run in with the law (domestic disturbance) and subsequently being suspended by his coach, it is a tough choice for a lot of teams to consider.

But Philadelphia won't be able to pass something like this up. They have tried several times to get help for McNabb at WR, and it has yet to pan out. The hope here would be that for this combination of size and athleticism, they would have a golden opportunity to put the past behind them, for good.

Enter Hardy. He is a big guy, very similar in style to Plaxico Burress. He plants and cuts well, even though he tends to round off his routes, which is a major no-no. He has really nice hands, and the long arms to reel the ball in. He doesn't have breakaway speed, but he does show an ability to break tackles and move chains, and he is guaranteed to win his share of jump balls. He also understands well his ability to frustrate defenders, and while he needs to toughen up some to beat the jam, once in coverage he routinely gets the DB to draw an interference penalty, leading the NCAA last year.

All in all, he needs to gain maturity and about 10-15 lbs, but if he is up to that task, the Eagles have a spot at #1 WR they would like to groom him for.

Also surprised he fell this far
Most places have him rated in the top five of WRs.

With that said, I didn't know much about him until this post.

insane value
agonized over taking him or Flacco with Carolina's pick
this kid is a beast whose stock has dropped due to "character issues," but i have a sneaking suspicion that a lot of teams are going to end up kicking themselves for passing him up
i could definitely see SF taking him near the end of the 1st

In my mock I have him in the 1st round
Depending on how teams view his character issues he could go in the first or fall to even the third.

If he fell to the third
I bet the Chiefs would grab him...apparently, in order to play WR for us you need to be a gigantor.

Hardy and Smith
Man I was hoping each of the last two picks would fall to the Steelers. Oh well, time to go a different direction.

Awesome picture Chris!
That is what Hardy is all about right there!

The run in with the law was a call from his girlfriend that said he was beating on her and the baby!!!!

Doesn't sound good at all, but we really have no idea what it really amounts to.  He entered into a plea agreement, or somesuch, where he got therapy for working on anger issues, I think.
