In our recent Mock Draft pick, I suggested consideration of some defensive prospects, but conceded that WR Ted Ginn Jr might be too good to pass up. But, that is only if I or we are picking. With Carl and Herm picking, no WR would be too good to pass on.
It makes some sense, Herm has given every indication that he feels his best chance of winning is with an excellent defense and a ball control offense. A nice possession receiver would be nice, but not as necessary as OT, DT, or even CB. Further, he says he doesn't need a WR.
With our quarterback situation, poor QB play could make a #1 WR pick look bad or vise versa. At the least, a WR would use up most of his contract developing slowly with our passing game.
With our impending offensive philosophy, the only reason we would pick a WR, is because of value. Now, I love Tamba Hali, but he was not a value pick. No, Herm won't be picking a WR and we'll be lucky to get an OT in the first three rounds.
Given all that, what I would like to see is a trade down. If we traded #23 and Trent Green to Miami for both of their second round picks everyone could be happy. Carl gets another second round pick. Miami trades 5th round value for Trent. The front office doesn't have to pay first round money. Trent goes where he wants. Herm gets enough picks to get a solid OT,DT,and CB in the second round as well as a QB or WR in the third. And finally, we don't have to watch the Chiefs reach horribly with their first round pick.
