A legitimate shot at #4
We have a legitimate shot at the #4 pick. Not that it matters, because we'll take Long, and no one really cares for linemen in the best offensive skill position draft in five years along with Glen Dorsey, but still. It's exciting nonetheless.
The Niners win was huge. There's almost no way McFadden slips to the Pats now. That's good, good, good news.
Here's what we need.
Obviously, we want the Chiefs to win, rah-rah, go get 'em, Damon, etc.
But say we lose to the Jets...
According to this site,
http://www.playoffstatus.com/nfl/nfldraftorder.html
we have a 31% chance of getting the #4 pick. It looks like it would take a miracle for us to get the #2 pick, even if we lose and St. Louis and Atlanta win.
If we somehow beat the Jets, we drop all the way to 8. That is not good. This game is actually pretty huge. It's going to mean the difference between 3 or 4 or 7 or 8.
That's a wide range. We've got a 52% chance at getting the 5 pick or better.

It would be interesting to see what they do
If Dorsey is available would they go ahead and take him? I doubt it since they spent 2 first day picks on Defensive Linemen last year and our line is such a shambles, but our run defense has been terrible this year and Dorsey IS a monster.
But then again, there are quite a few good linemen in the draft this year. If they think they can fill their needs in the 2nd and 3rd rounds, they may not feel tied to getting a lineman in the 1st (though I still think they probably should).
I still don't think (short of McFadden or Dorsey) there is anyone worth a 3rd or 4th round pick in the draft. Long is considered the best lineman in the draft, but from what I hear, most people think he will be drafted above what he should be. I still am pretty sure we will get to trade down to pick up extra picks, which will be a good thing.
Regardless of what draft position it puts us in, I think its 1000 times more important to beat the Jets. We've GOT to win a game. Losing so bad to the Colts last year in the playoffs carried over to this season. What will going into next season with a 9 game losing streak do?

I don't think that losing to the Colts

You're right
That's true because the higher a guy is drafted the more money he makes, and just because he's one of the better players in the draft that year doesn't mean he's worth that money.
So the Chiefs may WANT to trade down, but there may not be anyone another team sees worth trading up for.

Along those same lines
I remember when they took Tamba Hali in the 1st round, everyone thought he had been taken 10 picks too early because his speed in one of the benchmarks wasn't real high, but the Chiefs had him high on their list.
Or when they took Bowe, but we had other needs and weren't especially looking for a WR that early, but someone with so much talent was sitting there they couldn't pass them up.
So we could end up with a different lineman the personnel guys have rated higher or who Herm likes their attitude better, OR there might be a player sitting there at a different position that is just too good for the Chiefs to pass on.
As long as we can pick up 2 or 3 linemen in the early rounds that will be the foundation of our line for years to come, I'd be fine with them picking a D-Bowe type talent in another position that we aren't really thinking about.
