Chiefs Sign WRs Joachim and Marshall to Two-Year Deals

Kansas City Chiefs President Carl Peterson announced on Wednesday that the team has agreed to terms of two-year contracts with WRs Sergio Joachim and Timon Marshall. No other terms of the agreements were made public, as per Chiefs policy.

Joachim (6-5, 205) played for the University of Central Florida, tallying 19 receptions for 236 yards during his 2007 senior season. The North Miami, Florida native nabbed a team-high nine receptions against Tulsa (10/20/07).

Joachim graduated from North Miami High School in 2003 after earning letterman status in each of his four years as a WR.

Marshall (5-10, 188) joins the Chiefs after starring for the Los Angeles Avengers and the Grand Rapids Rampage of the Arena Football League. He also joined the Chicago Bears for training camp a year ago. Marshall led the AFL in all-purpose yards in both 2006 and 2007, compiling a two-year total of 5,784 yards. In 2006, the Ottawa, Kansas native became the first player in AFL history to record 1,300 receiving yards and 1,300 return yards in the same season.

Kansas City Chiefs President Carl Peterson announced on Wednesday that the club has agreed to terms of a four-year contract with CB Brandon Flowers. As per Chiefs policy, no other terms of the agreement were made available.

"Happens to me all the time," Edwards said. "Everybody gets me and Tony Dungy confused. I call him up once a month and go, 'How many this month?' And he usually goes, 'Five.' Or, 'Six.'"

One time, Dungy was at Colts training camp, wearing a Colts hat and a Colts shirt when a teenage kid came up to him and said, "Coach Herm, can I get your autograph?"

"I'm not Coach Herm," Dungy said. "He coaches the Chiefs." He pointed to his blue Colts shirt with the word Colts written on it and the large Colts logo under it. "I coach the Colts."

Tony Gonzalez is still the Chiefs' best player but it is Dorsey's time now. The Chiefs are clearly in the rebuilding mode and Dorsey is the key to it all. If the Chiefs are going to make a fast rebound it will because Dorsey becomes the centerpiece of the defense. That is why he was the No. 5 overall draft pick this April.

The Chiefs are now Dorsey's team.

Arrowhead Stadium has sold out every game since 1991 and despite a downturn in the economy and more than a few angry fans, the Chief's brass isn't sweating ticket sales.

The Chiefs’ other first-round pick, offensive tackle Branden Albert, and second-round cornerback Brandon Flowers were also still unsigned.

"They just really got started on my contract negotiations," said Albert, who was home in Maryland on Monday but planned to return to Kansas City today in preparation for the start of camp. "I still plan to be there when camp starts."

A fourth Chiefs pick, seventh-round tight end Michael Merritt, was also unsigned. Merritt has a leg injury that won’t allow him to practice when camp begins. The Chiefs won’t sign Merritt until he’s ready to practice.

Chiefs Add International Developmental Player LB Aden Durde

Kansas City Chiefs President Carl Peterson announced on Tuesday that the NFL has placed LB Aden Durde on the Chiefs roster as an international developmental player for 2008.

Teams in the AFC West, AFC North, NFC West and NFC South will each have an additional international development practice squad player in 2008 bringing the total of 16 international players on NFL practice squads. Durde will be Kansas City’s international development practice squad player in 2008. Under the terms of this program, Durde cannot be promoted to the 53-man roster once the regular season starts in 2008.

Every team does it’s best to sign players before their respective training camp starts up. They also try really hard to get those players signed for a salary number that benefits the team in the long run. It’s a good business practice last I checked and considering the Chiefs - along with the other 31 teams in the NFL - are first and foremost a business, one shouldn’t be too surprised to see them drive as hard a bargain as they can when they’re coming to an agreement with a potential employee.

Kansas City Chiefs President Carl Peterson announced on Monday that the club has agreed to terms of three-year contracts with RB Jamaal Charles and TE Brad Cottam. As per Chiefs policy, no other terms of the agreements were made available.

The Chiefs have now agreed to terms with eight of their 12 draft picks from the 2008 draft class. Charles and Cottam join third-round selection S DaJuan Morgan (82nd overall), fourth-round pick WR Will Franklin (105th overall), fifth-round selection CB Brandon Carr (140th overall), sixth-round picks T Barry Richardson (170th overall) and WR Kevin Robinson (182nd overall) and seventh-round pick DE Brian Johnston (210th overall).
